One of the founding pillars of the company is experimentation and the creation of original contemporary circus pieces that highlight our natural spaces, be it a national park or a city garden. Why Shackamaxon
(Penn Treaty Park?)

Almanac has a unique connection to Penn Treaty Park.

When the company was forming, it was hard to find affordable rehearsal spaces that were appropriate for circus arts.

So, the company made its first piece largely rehearsing in Penn Treaty Park, often attracting the attention of community members also enjoying the outdoor space. These first audiences were crucial in molding this first piece.

That work, Communitas, received a residency at New York Live Arts, and became the foundation on which Almanac was built.

Penn Treaty Park, and its welcoming community, have played a substantial role in our work ever since.
