AlmanAcro, Almanac's open ensemble circus gymnasium, is your opportunity to come play.
Learn some acrobatics, get a work out, unleash your creativity, meet new people (and Almanac company members and guest artists!), and see inside Almanac's process for creating work. One part contemporary performance laboratory, one part movement class, and one part acro jam, AlmanAcro is a resource for performers, athletes, and people who are neither! No experience is necessary. Come out and play with us!

What else is found inside simple problems of balance? What if the body is an instrument that measures risk with accuracy?
Taking the body as both sentient being and architecture, we think through our anatomies. Beginning with contact improvisations and basic partnering tools, we hone the senses to understand body mechanics which lead to physical balance and non-balance. We stack bodies on top of ideas as we "listen" for the sense of equilibrium, danger, and access to possibility. Essential in traditions of partner acrobatics the world over is a spirit of play and we ground our safety by training our responses to the moment's demand with verbal and non-verbal language, both individually and with a spot. This workshop looks at freeing creativity beyond the usual corporeal limits, recognizing too that the sensitivities trained here apply to the daily creative process and beyond. For circus artists, AlmanAcro offers tools of composition and play which can unlock freedom to explore beyond technical virtuosity.
No acrobatic experience is necessary. Please wear form fitting clothes that you can move in.
