Human Camouflage: The Discoveries of Jeanne Baret

  • new york botanical garden 2900 Southern Boulevard Bronx, NY, 10458 United States (map)

A brand-new, genre defying work of acrobatic theatre that introduces audiences to the story of Jeanne Baret, the first woman to circumnavigate the globe, who did so while dressed as a man. It is exceedingly likely that while on her voyage to the West Indies aboard the Étoile, Jeanne Baret discovered and documented many species of Mauritian and other Orchids that were, necessarily, credited to her lover and student, Philibert Commerson. Join Almanac for a 15-minute workshop production of what will eventually become a full-length work.
