In the Spring of 2019, award-winning choreographer Reggie Wilson will present Grounds That Shout! (and others merely shaking), a series of performances exploring relationships and connections between religion, movement, race, and the body with a focus on the African American religious experience within the specific context of Philadelphia’s historic sacred spaces.
Wilson’s own Fist and Heel Performance Group will develop new work in residency at Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia, culminating in public performances on May 2, 3 and 4, 2019.
Wilson will also curate performances by Philadelphia-based artists — such as ALMANAC Dance Circus Theater — at three Society Hill religious sites in a Processional series on May 11, 2019, highlighting both the broad narrative history of these spaces and their present-day status in a rapidly changing city. There will be three processions, at 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm.
